Wednesday Night - CLASSES

Conveniently timed to be a mid-week check-in with your church family, these classes put practical next steps to explore your faith. On Sundays, you’re able to attend, worship and join in community—this mid-week opportunity is an extension of putting practice to Biblical truths.

Because of diversity of staff and church members, UC is able to offer many classes that change each semester. In addition to content changing, style of classes can range from video studies to interactive classes, from asking questions to exploring Biblical authors.

Simply: everyone. To expand: our desire is to provide spaces for anyone and everyone to find community centered and surrounded by Jesus. These classes are open for anyone willing and wanting to explore faith—from those beginning the journey, to those who continue to develop their relationship with Jesus.

Absolutely! As we always encourage you to grow in community, invitation into that community is vital. What would it look like to invite a friend or co-worker into your faith? Wednesday Night classes are a great way to explore topics of faith and encourage anyone to ask questions!

April 17, 24; May 1, 8, 15 | 6:45-7:45 PM
*Doors open at 6:30. Prayer begins at 6:45 | Choir Room (E-203)
Led by Pastor Jamie and Pastor Taylor

As a pastoral team, we believe God has an invitation for us as a church in this next season: to grow in prayer. We’ve invested time and energy into a kid’s ministry, because we want kids and families to come… we’ve invested in a youth ministry, because we want teens and families to come… and we believe it’s time to begin investing more intentionality into prayer … because we want God to come.

Prayer is a declaration to God that we want Him here. We don’t just want to ask God to bless what we’ve already decided to do; we want to seek His face. We want to grow our expectation of His here-and-now Presence (the Holy Spirit). We want to learn how to hear the Spirit’s voice. We want to make space for Him to speak. We want to know the power and love of God that is available through prayer. This is what it means to be the Church.

In light of that, we want to invite you to join us for an hour of prayer that will be primarily led and guided by the Scriptures. While there will be clear guidance and instruction, you can expect less of a classroom environment and more of a participatory space, where all are welcome (but none are required) to join in. We’ll create space to sit with God, read a passage of Scripture, and then allow Him to highlight portions of it to use as a springboard into prayer together.

This will be a space that is accessible for people at all stages in their prayer journey – whether completely new, or seasoned by years! Join us as we learn through experience how to pray, and accept God’s invitation to seek more of His Presence.

It may be hard for you to feel optimistic about the future right now. If you’ve lost a spouse, child, family member, or friend, you’ve probably found there are not many people who understand the deep hurt you feel. This can be a confusing time when you feel isolated and have many questions about things you’ve never faced before.

“Going to GriefShare feels like having warm arms wrapped around you when you’re shivering.”

This GriefShare group meets weekly to help you face these challenges and move toward rebuilding your life. Each GriefShare session has three distinct elements:

Video seminar with experts
Each week your GriefShare group will watch a video seminar featuring top experts on grief and recovery subjects. These videos are produced in an interesting television magazine format featuring expert interviews, real-life case studies, dramatic reenactments, and on-location video.

Support group discussion with focus
After viewing the video, you and the other group members will spend time as a support group, discussing what was presented in that week’s video seminar and what is going on in your lives.

Personal study and reflection
During the week you will have the opportunity to use your workbook for further personal study of the grieving process and to help sort out your emotions through journaling. Your group will spend time discussing questions and comments from the workbook study.

What topics might be explored?

  • The Journey of Grief
  • Guilt and Anger
  • Feeling Stuck
  • What Do I Live for Now?
  • Complicating Factors
  • Heaven

Who should come?
GriefShare is for people grieving the death of a family member or friend. We understand that there are other losses in life that create feelings of grief. You might be experiencing a job loss, a divorce, estrangement from a child, or the loss of friends because of a move. This grief is real, but it is not the kind of grief discussed in GriefShare sessions.
