Serve Beyond our walls

We believe following Jesus means more than gathering on Sundays—it means being His hands, feet, and voice wherever He has placed us. Through serving in our community and partnering with organizations and schools, we have opportunities to Behold Jesus. Become like Him. Be His hands, feet, and voice. Explore ways to serve and join us in bringing the love of Jesus to our community.

Choices Women’s Clinic

Elaine Myers

Choices Women’s Clinic exists to encourage and equip women and men to make informed pregnancy decisions. Choices does not benefit financially from any decision a patient makes and does not charge for services. Choices believe that women and men are capable of making their own choices when given accurate information.

Many patients did not plan on getting pregnant and they are facing difficult choices. Choices’ goal is for each patient to make her own decision after she has received all the resources and information applicable to her situation. If pregnant, some choose to parent, some choose to place for adoption, and some choose to end their pregnancy and have an abortion.

With over 30 years of experience providing free and confidential services to patients in Greater Orlando, Choices is here when you find yourself unsure of whether you are pregnant, and when you don’t know all of your options—a free and confidential space to have your questions answered.

Clothing Closets

Jim Yde

Help provide a welcoming, dignified shopping experience for students at two of University Carillon’s partner schools: Eastlake Elementary and Riverdale Elementary.

Volunteers serve one day each month at their assigned school helping students “shop” for clothing, and one day each month sorting new donations and restocking racks and shelves.

When:

  • Eastlake Elementary: 2nd & 4th Wednesdays, 9:15 AM–12:30 PM
  • Riverdale Elementary: 1st & 3rd Wednesdays, 9:15 AM–12:30 PM

No physical requirements are needed! There is always someone available to help with the occasional heavy bag or box of donations.

Community Pantry

Elaine Myers

Community Pantry is a ministry of University Carillon that helps support local food pantries. Once a month, “Community Pantry” bags are handed out at service with the request to fill them with nonperishables and return them the next weekend at service. The nonperishable food items donated to Community Pantry will be shared with local food pantries in need.

Next time you see one of the navy Community Pantry reusable bags, please participate in a way that gives back to those in need in our community. Thank you!

HOW IT WORKS:
Community Pantry bags will be available for pick up once a month. When you pick up the bag:
1. Take the Community Pantry bag with you and fill it with nonperishable food items. (Or bring in any donatable bag)
2. Pray for those who may be receiving the food in the bag.
3. Drop the bag off at service next weekend. (you can also leave them behind your car before walking into service)

Requested items: mac and cheese, canned raviolis/SpaghettiOs, tuna or canned chicken, canned soup, canned beans, rice, ramen noodles, canned vegetables, peanut butter, cereal, pasta, jelly, oatmeal, pancake mix, syrup, pasta sauce (canned or plastic jars).

Community Work Days

Elaine Myers

In addition to the “in-house” opportunities listed here, we sponsor “Community Launch” days where we tackle a number of activities that benefit our neighbors–yard clean-up, distribution of event information, minor home repairs, food collections and more. Watch for announcements about the next Community Launch day.

Game Day at UC

Chris Akers

Join the “Doggers” in a family-friendly and visitor-friendly environment by helping to cook and serve food during UCF football games and do other “no strings attached” outreach activities.

HOPE Helps

Elaine Myers

HOPE Helps, Inc., is a local non-profit with a mission to assist individuals and families in crisis and prevent homelessness in our community, by providing basic needs such as food, clothing, and other assistance through case managements. They are always in need of volunteers and donations to their thrift store and food pantry.

Inside Out Jail Ministry

Tamy Fisher

ISO exists to assist and prepare incarcerated men and women, no matter their personal religious beliefs, to make a successful transition from jail back into their communities. The goal is to reduce recidivism by encouraging personal growth, rebuilding families, and strengthening communities.

ISO provides an educational experience inside the jail (addressing criminal and addictive behavior, building trust, setting goals, etc.) and works with residents who request assistance in formulating a plan to keep them on track once they are released. ISO’s overall strategy includes continuing education and spiritual development; training spiritual mentors and “pen pals”; communicating and coordinating with families for support during the transition period; providing clothing to those in need; connecting persons with local resources and recovery programs; and working with public defenders and social workers.

Missions Trips

Chris Akers

University Carillon has built relationships with several missionaries and ministries throughout the world – including the Bahamas, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Rwanda, and Kenya.  We are currently involved at several locations in the Dominican Republic and in Cuba, but always looking for God’s calling.  Is God calling you?  If so, come join us.

Sister Churches in Cuba

Chris Akers

We send teams as often as possible to minister alongside three “sister churches” in the Holguin province of Cuba.

The Dominican Republic

Rick Sucher

Rick has been a missionary since 1999 serving first in the Philippines and now in the Dominican Republic. After his wife passed away after being married for 35 years and five beautiful children, he was blessed by God in 2022 to have Cindy come into his life. From the very beginning the heart of their ministry has been to work with pastors strengthening their churches, and assisting them in establishing outreach ministries. They have four main focuses- discipleship and nutrition programs for over 250 children on a weekly basis, establishing accredited Bible schools within their partnering churches to raise up future leaders and pastors, overseeing occupational training programs so that graduates can start their own businesses and or find better paying jobs, and lastly hosting mission teams to help impact the ministries of our church partners and impact the lives of those that come down to serve with us.

We send missions teams to work with the Suchers about once a year.

Barrett and Dayna Brown

Dayna serves as the nurse at our staff conferences, and volunteers at a free clinic for the uninsured (during non-covid times).   Currently Barrett serves under the leadership of our CFO to come alongside ministry leaders to help them tie their work to a strong strategic direction.  We work on team effectiveness, leadership development, and resource development.  We work to help different ministries in Cru increase their effectiveness in bringing the gospel to the lost.

James

Working as part of a Business as Mission (BAM) Team in the Middle East. His team works as an incubator of new ideas and BAM projects in the country, as well as the region. We are working alongside a church plant in our city, discipling believers and equipping them to live out their faith, building the kingdom of God through our cafe and coffee roasting business and exporting business.

Joan Tungseth

Along with her Cru Prayer Team, Joan seeks to be a prayer covering over our Global Leaders and their teams in order for them to accomplish our global mission of helping to fulfill the Great Commission. We seek to pray strategically for critical prayer needs of our global movement to help win people to Christ, build them in their faith and send them out to do the same (win, build & send others) in order to see God’s Kingdom built on the earth!

Mike and Amy Whipple

The Whipples are serving with the campus ministry of Cru. Currently Mike serves as a National Director helping with Strategic Partnering and Evangelistic Initiatives. Much of our time is spent in efforts to mobilize young people in their relationship with God and into His mission here at home and abroad.  Our motivating passion is to mobilize the next generation in their faith and equip them for a lifetime of serving and sharing Christ.

Mike and Michelle Chapman

The Chapmans have served with Cru (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ) for over 40 years, Mike and Michelle currently serve at Cru’s international headquarters.  Mike works as a missionary journalist/writer for various ministry publications and also does prison ministry two days a week. Michelle is on Cru’s corporate events team, hosting 9-10 events and outreaches a year both to encourage the 1000 Cru staff who work there, and also reach the community with the Good News of Jesus.

Rich and Ruthie Wiewiora

The Wievioras have been serving Jesus Christ through Cru® for over 47 years in the U.S. and overseas. They help build up Christ followers, particularly in the context of small groups and meeting one on one to ground them in knowing and living out God’s Word. In addition, Rich uses his copy-editing skills at Cru’s world headquarters in Orlando, FL, to report on what God is doing through people around the globe, and to encourage and equip others in their journey with God and in their loving witness to others.
