Exploring Jesus'
Sermon

KINGDOM

The Way of Jesus

Jesus’ teachings astounded and confounded His listeners … yet He was more than a great teacher.

Jesus’ life and morality have inspired millions … yet He was more than a moral example.

Jesus’ miracles brought hope … yet He was more than a miracle worker.

… Jesus came to inaugurate a new kingdom.

But lest we be confused—this wasn’t, and isn’t, a kingdom like we might think. “My kingdom,” Jesus said, “is not an earthly kingdom. It’s not of this world” (John 18:36).

It’s the kingdom of heaven, and it’s upside-down in the best way possible—unexpected and counter-cultural—piercing through human systems to begin with the human heart.

Jesus came with both the promise & the power to transform both our hearts & this world through reconciled relationship with our Maker. And from that place—we live differently. Pray differently. Give differently. Disagree differently. Love differently. We view success, money, and even our deepest worries through an entirely different lens.

Ultimately, He came to make us into the kind of people who live captivated by this wild vision: that a new way of life and a new way to Life is possible. Convinced that it is only possible through Jesus. And committed to begin living into this heavenly reality, right in the midst of our earthly one—following the way of Jesus as He brings His upside-down kingdom, here on earth, as it is in heaven (Mt. 6:10).

What might that look like?

Welcome to Jesus' Sermon on the Mount.

Sundays

8:45, 10, 11:30 AM

Each Sunday, we’ll journey through the Sermon on the Mount together, exploring the upside-down kingdom Jesus came to establish. But the conversation doesn’t end when the service does.
As our church journeys through Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, kids will discover the amazing, upside-down truths of Jesus’ kingdom through engaging Bible stories, hands-on activities, games, worship, and small groups. They’ll learn what it means to be kind, brave, generous, forgiving, and to love others the way Jesus does.

High School EPIC Youth Nights (Sundays, 5–7:30 PM) will follow along the same texts and topics for the Sermon on the Mount series.

Wednesdays

6:30–8 PM (optional $7 dinner at 6 PM)

On Wednesday nights, we’ll gather to slow down, ask questions, wrestle with Scripture, and discover together what it looks like to actually live the way of Jesus. Through discussion, community, and practical application, we’ll unpack Sunday’s message and explore how the Kingdom of Heaven continues to transform our everyday lives.
Kids Ministry Wednesday Nights (Wednesdays, 6–8 PM) will discover the amazing, upside-down truths of Jesus’ kingdom through engaging Bible stories, hands-on activities, games, worship, and small groups. They’ll learn what it means to be kind, brave, generous, forgiving, and to love others the way Jesus does.

Middle School EPIC Youth Nights (Wednesdays, 6–8 PM) will follow along the same texts and topics for the Sermon on the Mount series.
In addition to our Wednesday Nights, some small groups will be following along the series. Please reach out to the group leader for more info (and availability).

Companion & Resource Guide

Jesus ends the Sermon on the Mount with a word of caution and advice related to what we do with his teachings. His advice? Listen … and put it into practice.

That’s why you’ll find each week broken into a two-part rhythm: word and practice. We want to sit in the Word, study it, and soak it up. But we don’t stop there; we also want to practice it in our lives.

The Narrow Path

We live in a culture that wants it all. More is seen as better—whether it’s more money, social media fame, choices, or power. For those chasing this way of life, “narrow” seems negative. Who wants to narrow their options . . . or be seen as narrow-minded?

Which is why the most well-known talk in the history of the world—the Sermon on the Mount—is also the most paradoxical one. In it, Jesus holds up the narrow path as the most spacious . . . and the broader path as the more confining one.

Rich Villodas, bestselling author of The Deeply Formed Life, explores what today’s broad and narrow paths look like so you can discern which one you’re on. The answer may surprise you—and will help you pursue the way of Jesus more deeply when it comes to loving God and others, prayer, sexual desire, conflict, money, anxiety, and more.

The Narrow Path reintroduces the counterintuitive wonder of Jesus’s timeless wisdom for this age, one fraught with anxiety, depression, polarizing politics, and online vitriol. The path of Jesus is most certainly narrow, but it is the only one filled with the ever-expanding life of God . . . and it is available now for all who want it!

*Use this week to engage the scripture directly, reflect on the sermon and practice, and / or spend extended time in prayer.

“The Sermon on the Mount
is probably the best-known
part of the teaching of Jesus

... though arguably it is the least understood, and certainly it is the least obeyed. It is the nearest thing to a manifesto that he ever uttered, for it is his own description of what he wanted his followers to be and to do. To my mind no two words sum up its intention better, or indicate more clearly its challenge to the modern world, than the expression 'Christian counter-culture’ .”
