The One

Series Overview

God’s heart burns with a love, a passion, a burden, for those who are far from Him. Do our hearts burn for the same?

Over 21 days, we’re inviting & challenging you to fast (in some way) while asking God to truly give you a heart — and feet — that move toward those who don’t know Him. By the end of this series, our church-wide challenge is for every person to name one person & one place they will be invested & available — praying & looking for opportunities to share the grace & truth of Jesus.

Growing in evangelism & outreach has recently become a key priority for us as a community — an area we’ve sensed God moving us to grow. But where do we begin? In prayer and conversations with our team, we kept coming back to this: we need to start from the ground up. We need to ask God to increase our faith in the gospel, increase our love for the lost, and increase our burden for those who don’t know Him … and from that place, we move with humble boldness and intentionality into everyday evangelism. If we don’t begin with God’s heart, evangelism is just going to feel like religious obligation — to both us and others. So let’s begin … by setting distractions aside to seek the heart of the One who first sought us.

Series Resources

Make a plan & share with a friend. Jesus warns us to not fast in order to impress (Matthew 6:16-18), but that doesn’t always mean fasting alone. Invite someone into the journey for encouragement & accountability!

TAKE ME THERE

Sunday morning sermon from Vessel in 2022; an introduction to the practice of fasting from our Canyon series on spiritual disciplines.

TAKE ME THERE

Alongside fasting and praying together on Wednesdays (see tab for info), this week, join us by praying this week’s “sticky prayer” and doing this week’s practice (practical step).

This week’s sticky prayer: God, give us Your heart.

WHAT IS A “STICKY PRAYER”? A real simple, one-line prayer we’re challenging everyone church-wide to pray this week: short and simple enough to hopefully “stick” in your heart & mind as you go throughout your week.

This week’s practice: Write out your testimony.
Even if you’ve done it before, do it again. It keeps the goodness of God in our lives fresh in our hearts & ready on our tongues. If you need a place to start, try using one (or multiple) of these questions as a prompt:

•  Who were you before? Who are you now? How are you free?
•  What difference has following Jesus made in your life?

This week’s practice: Ask God for ONE person & ONE place.
This week, we’re challenging every person to 1) show up this week praying: “I’m available,” and 2) as you fast, pray, and go about your day-to-day … ask God to highlight the name of one person and one place you’ll commit to investing prayer, time, and friendship in this fall. This is a person and a place where you’re committing to pray and be more available … where you are looking for opportunities to serve and to bless … where you’re asking God for open doors into deeper friendship and gospel conversations. Come next Sunday ready to write it down!
