The invitation this Lenten season is to humble ourselves before God. Contrary to popular belief, true humility is not found in self-deprecating thoughts; it is not low self-esteem; it is not about becoming timid. No … true humility is total surrender; it is entire dependence; it is nothingness and emptiness in the best possible way; it is “acknowledging the truth of [our] position [as humans] and yielding to God in His rightful place;” it is “the disappearance of self in the vision and understanding that God is all” (Andrew Murray).
More than anything, it’s the invitation of God – amidst a world screaming “climb higher!” – to go lower, look up, open our hands, and walk as He did (Micah 6:8).
Through this season, we’ll explore practical Scriptural invitations that cultivate humility: to submit, stand, come close, come clean, come together, seek the interests of others, and empty ourselves.
During Holy Week, we are setting aside seven days for continuous prayer as a church family. From Sunday morning (Palm Sunday) through the following Sunday morning (Easter), our Prayer Room will remain open day and night as we enter a Week of Unbroken Prayer.
