Ways to Give

Note: the following information is meant as a general summary and shouldn’t be viewed as financial advice. Please speak with a financial advisor for specific details and guidance.

Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds and ETFs

When donating appreciated securities, the full value of the security given is eligible for a charitable deduction and the giver doesn’t pay capital gains tax on the gain. Likewise, University Carillon Church does not pay tax on that gain either.

Transferring appreciated stock directly to the church is often more efficient than selling it and donating the cash. To obtain University Carillon’s UBS stock account number, contact our Finance Department.

Double Tax Break: You avoid paying capital gains tax on the appreciation and can typically deduct the full fair market value of the shares (if held for over a year).

Portfolio Rebalancing: This allows you to reduce a concentrated stock position without triggering a tax bill.

Required Minimum Distributions & QCDs

If you are 70 ½ and/or on Required Minimum Distributions (RMD), you can give money directly from your retirement accounts directly to University Carillon Church. These donations, while not qualifying as charitable deductions, are not taxable income to you. And as a general practice, it is usually better from a tax savings perspective to not recognize income than it is to take a charitable deduction.

Tax Benefit: The distribution is excluded from your taxable income, providing a tax break even if you take the standard deduction.

Satisfy RMD: For those age 73 or older, a QCD counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) for the year.

Limits: You can donate up to $105,000 annually (increasing to $111,000 in 2026).

Donor-Advised Funds

Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs) can be directed to issue a check to University Carillon Church, 1395 Campus View Court, Oviedo, FL 32765.

  • Making Donor-Advised Fund donations assumes that you already have established such a fund through a DAF Sponsor.
  • Then simply notify your DAF Sponsor that you’d like to make a grant from your DAF to University Carillon Church, 1395 Campus View Court, Oviedo, FL 32765.

Strategic Giving: You can contribute assets now, receive an immediate tax deduction, and recommend grants to your church over time.

Flexibility: Funds in the DAF can be invested to grow tax-free, potentially increasing the total amount available for the church later.

Note: You cannot use a QCD to fund a DAF; it must go directly to a qualified 501(c)(3) charity like a church.

Charitable Life Income Plans

These vehicles provide you with income during your lifetime, with the remainder eventually going to your church.

A simple contract where you gift assets to a charity in exchange for fixed payments for life.

An irrevocable trust that pays income to you or your heirs for a set term, after which the remaining balance supports the church.

Legacy Giving

University Carillon Church can be named as a beneficiary of your investment accounts, trusts, and estate plans.

You can name the church as a beneficiary of a policy or transfer ownership of a paid-up policy to the church for an immediate tax deduction.

Donating a personal residence or commercial property can provide a major tax deduction and avoid capital gains taxes on highly appreciated land.

You can include the church in your will or living trust as a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your estate.
