Virtual Mission Trip

Featured Video

Pastors have to travel around a lot and most don’t have any vehicle, so they are always walking to and from church and helping in their communities.  Thanks to the Christian Motorcycle Association, Rick has been able to get motorcycles for many of them.  Lest go learn about that and meet some of the pastors.

Now we hop on the bus and go to Charimicos.  This is where the Bible College is as well as the English classes.  Rick started these programs so let’s talk to him and hear from some of the students.  It’s exciting to see the impact these schools are having in this community.

Where In The World (WITW)

This is the new church in Congrejo Rick has connected with.  It sits right on a main road, unlike the others situated in the middle of a village.  There are many children in the area, so we are hoping to establish a feeding program there by adding on a small kitchen like in Redemption.  Rick will give us a tour and tell the story of meeting Pastor Luis, then we will see some of the kids.

Bible Story

Jesus and The Prodigal Son
Luke 15:11-32

Jesus is someone who is full of grace, love and power … and wants to know you on a personal level. In today’s story, we learn that you are not too young or too old to make a difference in this world. Check out this truth played out in our skit of “Jesus and The Prodigal Son.”

Craft

It’s A Party!
Supplies from your box: party hat, assorted craft items (you can use your own as well!), glue, scissors

Project

This is another project we did 3 years ago.  This sweet family had outgrown its space and there was no room for a kitchen or place to cook except outdoors.  Fortunately, we had the right size team to tackle it.  They were so grateful to have inside space to cook for the family.

And That’s a Wrap!

It has become a tradition that we have a water balloon event on our last day in Redemption Village.  The kids look forward to it with excitement.  You will see in this video exactly what I mean.  Let the fun begin!!

Dinner Together LIVE & in-person Friday, 6:30 PM at University Carillon

Come prepared to sing the song you’ve been practicing (Grande y Fuerte), eat some great Dominican food and play!

Today we are going to meet Homero.  He has an amazing story about how he went from being our driver on our first trip to being our top man on the ground along with his beautiful wife Ester.   It’s a story of how God steps in and changes lives, of how our actions, not words, impacts those watching us.  Let’s hear his story!

Where In The World (WITW): Las Piedras

We will be heading down some very narrow streets, barely room for the bus, then wall between the homes and comidas (little shops) to reach the church down by the water.  This is the church that was destroyed by a hurricane several years ago.  It has been rebuilt and this is where we started the second feeding program.  The contrast between the destruction you see at the waters edge and the new church reminds us how God can make something good out of nothing.  Lets take a look and meet some of the people.

Bible Story

Jesus and The Good Samaritan
Luke 10:25-37

Jesus shares a little bit about our neighbors and how they should be treated. Although we have an idea of a neighbor, Jesus redefines this—your neighbor is anyone you come in contact with. Check out this truth played out in our skit of “Jesus and The Good Samaritan.”

Craft

Supplies from your box: string, beads, scissors

Project

While we are here in Las Piedras, we need to hear Chilas’ story.  You saw Chila working int the kitchen, she loves serving the children and lives nearby.  She lives with her daughter who has disabilities and has worked in the ministry for 20 years.  No one knew about the condition of her home because she rarely had visitors and never complained, but God knew and brought it to Ricks’s attention.  Watch the video and learn the whole story.

Where In The World (WITW): Casandra’s home and family

Remember Casandra who prayed and sang yesterday?  Well, she is going to take us on a little tour from the Sunday School to her home.  We will learn more about her and her family.  Then we will go to meet her grandmother and see her little store.  Imagine if your family all lived close enough to walk to visit them, wouldn’t that be fun!

Craft

A Sweet Treat
Supplies from your box: cookie, frosting, sprinkles (and goldfish … as a snack!)

Project

Today we will see how the house became a Sunday School.  It started out with a dirt floor so we had to pour concrete.  We added fans and lights and a lot of paint.  Finally, it was ready for the tables, benches and blackboards.  And all the children of course.  They are so happy to have their own space to worship God and now have teaching and a hot meal.

Hola mi amigos!  Today we are going to Los Castillos to see Rick’s office and learn how it has grown.  It’s not very far from Redemption Village where we were yesterday.  The office building was originally a single-story store front.  Half of it was the office and the other side was used for storage.  You will see in the slide show how we turned the storage area into a small church.  It grew so quickly, we had to add on more space in the front the next year.  Rick will tell you all about that in this video and show you how much it has changed.  Sit back and enjoy the story.

We hope you enjoyed the tour. Now let’s hop on the bus and go to Redemption Village again.  Casandra, one of the students will lead a prayer and she and her friends will sing a song for us.  Wait till you see the joy they have praising God, just like you do here at home.

Now we will meet Pastor Willie and Pastora Ysabella.  They run the children’s program at Redemption.  They are the sweetest couple and have so much love for the children.   Let’s hear their story on how the started working in the ministry and how a hurricane brought attention to a tiny church and made it grow.

Where In The World (WITW): the Sewing School

The sewing school moved to Redemption Village last year when the old school building became available.  After some renovating it is a perfect set up for classes.  Let’s hear the history from Esther, meet some of the students and see some of the things they have made.  Then Esther will teach us how to make a mask.  The materials are in your box.  Have fun and happy sewing. If you need some extra help, watch the third video of Susan walking through the steps to sew the mask!

Bible Story

Jesus Heals a Lame Man
John 5:1-13

Jesus is powerful—in his words, actions and character … and that power is living inside of you. Check out this truth played out in our skit of “Jesus Heals a Lame Man.”

Craft

A Lame Man … Walks!
Supplies from your box: white paper, brown paper, googly eyes, pencil, glue and scissors

Project

As we mentioned yesterday, the little church has grown and needs more seating and a Sunday school. The house you saw on the tour, to the left of the church, had been the home of the Pastor and his 4 children.  They recently moved into a larger home provided by another team.  We will turn that house into the Sunday school and start the construction later in the week.

Today we will begin building benches for the church and blackboards and tables for the Sunday school.  It takes a large team to do a project this big and God provided just that.  Watch now as we get started and see how excited the children get as we work outside where they can watch and join in.  Yes, we get a little messy.

Where In The World (WITW): Redemption Village

Are you ready to head to Redemption Village?  This is where it all started.  The church you will see at the entrance, had grown so much that they needed a Sunday school for the kids.  We will start that project this afternoon.

First let’s get on the bus and drive to Redemption.  When we get there, Pastor Rick will take us on a walking tour and show you around.  Let’s Go!

Bible Story

Jesus and The Lost Sheep
Luke 15:1-7

Jesus searches for the Lost and calls them found. Check out this truth played out in a skit of “Jesus and the Lost Sheep” performed in the Dominican Republic.

Today we will share the story of the lost sheep with the help of Bobby interpreting and some of the children in Congrejos taking part. We always share Bible stories with the kids and we filmed this one in April so you could experience what it is like!

Craft

Sheep, sheep!
Supplies from your box: black paper, green paper, white paper, cotton balls, cupcake wrapper.

Instructions:

  1. Using the black paper, cut out all your pieces for the sheep.
  2. Spread open the cupcake wrapper and glue it to the blank paper.
  3. Glue all the body parts in the appropriate places around the wrapper.
  4. Glue your cotton balls on the body of the sheep.
  5. Don’t forget to add the eyes!
  6. Using the green paper, add some grass for the pasture.

Project

Today we will look at a project we did in Redemption Village.  Anna is one of the ladies who cooks for the children.  She is a grandmother, who is raising her grandchildren.  Her home had numerous problems like a leaking roof, unsafe electrical issues and had never been painted.  We spent a whole day painting, and the children couldn’t wait to help.  Anna smiles as she watched her home being restored.  Take a look as Rick tells us more about it.
