Hey church—rather than rushing into where we’ll be headed Sunday, we want to encourage with something a little different. Today, meditate on the sacrifice of Friday…tomorrow, sit in the silence of Saturday…and then finally, come ready for the celebration of Sunday as we gather to remember how remarkable the resurrection truly is.

You can tune in to our Last Seven Words Service (online ONLY) at 7 PM to hear UC’s Next Gen. students share these last words of Jesus.

“Hallelujah Here Below”—pulled from one of our weekend gatherings; a mix of live band, pre-recorded choir, dual pianos and strings.

Near the end of his Journey to Jerusalem, the triumphal entry of Jesus into this city is met with joyful praise to God for all the miracles the disciples and crowds have witnessed.

In celebration, Palm Sunday was a giant, triumphal event at University Carillon. All weekend gatherings were filled with multiple ministries of praise through multi-generational worship, choir hymns, kids’ message, scripture and more!

Palm Sunday marks the start of Holy Week—a time in which the church points to, and remembers, the events leading to cross but ending in resurrection.

What your prayers and support mean to people in the Dominican Republic.

While there’s been a pandemic pause for mission team trips to the D.R., the work doesn’t stop and, as you might imagine, the need has increased. Your prayers and gifts have been more important than ever!

Here’s what’s been happening and how you can continue to help.

The D.R. sponsors a trade school program and has approved offering accredited sewing and other classes in our newly restored second-floor building in Redemption Village. Two large spaces will hold up to 20 students. This will help some find jobs and give others skills to start their own home business.

They also approved the smaller building in front of our office in Las Piedras for computer classes that will hold up to 10 students with back-to-back classes. We need to raise approximately $4,900 to buy computers and support equipment to run this school. Would you consider helping sponsor this program? It would be a great opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life.

Motorcycles: Help Them Mount Up!

Help Them Mount Up! This month we will be helping to buy three motorcycles for pastors. These faithful men have been walking or having to pay for public transportation to minister to the people in their communities — pastoral visits, prayer for the sick, services, evangelism outreaches and Bible studies.

Children’s Discipleship Program in Congreo

Several years ago the Lord connected us with Pastor Jose Luis. He became one of the first pastors to start a Bible school in his church. For over two years he and his wife oversaw the school. They raised up 12 leaders in the church. We began to partner for joint evangelism projects, door-to-door evangelism and, for the past two years, hosting a children’s outreach in Congreo.

Doing this out of a half-finished church was difficult. The Lord began to put it on our hearts to find a way to sponsor and finish off his church. In 2019 this started to become a reality. Little by little the Lord began bringing in the money to help finish the block work for the church and cement the walls.

Then LifeSong Church raised more than $4,000 to complete a roof and paint the building. Additional money came in for electrical work, windows, doors and ceiling fans.

Now we have ample space for over 40 children in two back-to-back classes.

Bible School opportunity in Congreo:

This year as the Lord allows we will be partnering again to start a new group of Bible school students. Please pray with us and, as the Lord allows, maybe you could sponsor one of the students!

Because of COVID, many ministry costs have gone up – some by as much as 35 percent. We provide an offering to staff each month to help cover their costs. Barb and I prayed and raised their offerings to help them through this as they have been so faithful serving the Lord and His ministry in the DR.

SPECIAL REQUEST: If you are not a monthly sponsor, would you consider becoming one? If you are already giving monthly, even a slight increase can be an enormous help!

Your faithful support helps us provide offerings for our staff in the Dominican Republic. Thanks to your prayers and giving you have been part of this amazing journey.

May the Lord bless you!

Friends and family at University Carillon, we are adapting like everyone else in a more controlled quarantined environment. There are curfews, mandated masks, limited group size, and they are even considering closing the border and/or limiting who can fly in and out of the country. Many people have been out of work for months and there is no real help for them from the Dominican Republic government. In the midst of this, the Lord is showing us new ways to minister and we are adapting as best we can as a ministry.

  1. Bible schools doing live ZOOM classes. This was a challenge with internet issues, phone upgrades, affordability of internet, etc. Each week we now have classes in 2 locations. So exciting! We are looking at having special teachers share once a month from the US. Working on those details now. Reinhard Bonke was the teacher for one night; he was teaching on Power-Evangelism.
  1. Occupational training. For English classes, we are turning to Zoom as well. We will have a time of sharing, a short devotional and prayer time as a way to minister to the students before the class starts.
  1. Children’s programs. Instead of meeting with 50–70 kids all at one time, we have grouped them up by ages and in smaller groups with spatial distancing. With many people out of work this is an important time; as we not only share the word of God and disciple the children, we also provide a good, nutritious meal for them as well.
  1. Occupational training—sewing. We have recruited several women and men from our past classes as well as new recruits to make masks not only our programs, but for all of Redemption Village—over 1600 masks for adults and kids. Our sewing program have made masks for all our kids and all our programs.
  1. Food distribution. As funds come in we are putting together food boxes for families. We are working with Pastors who know where the greatest needs are, and those are the families we are helping.
  1. Finally finished our second floor space. We have a 10-year lease at $2 a year. God is good! We have our Sewing program here and when things settle down will have furniture building and other classes to help provide ways men and women can make money for their families. We do this so that we can attract those that might not step in a church and introduce them to Jesus.

Know that you all are in our thought and prayers. Miss you!

—Rick and Barb Sucher

As the new school year approaches—which will look different for everyone—we are committed to helping our friends and neighbors at Bonneville Elementary return to school successfully.

While our involvement in the Back to School Bash is limited this year, we are packing 150 backpacks with school supplies to ensure students have what they need to succeed.

The church has already purchased the backpacks and supplies, so if you would like to help, please donate to cover the cost. $20 covers a backpack full of supplies, but any amount you can give is appreciated.

We’re checking in with you and letting you know about some important info for our relaunch this weekend (June 20–21). And please know that as we plan and prep for our relaunch, things might change. You can always stay up to date by visiting our church website.

The way church will look when we relaunch will look a lot different, but we want to be clear with one thing: God doesn’t change, and our mission of being a community sent to help anyone and everyone become a follower of Jesus doesn’t either.

So as we open up our in-person gatherings, please feel no pressure to attend if you don’t yet feel comfortable.  Don’t worry … the relationships and family you’ve experienced and have at University Carillon are still here and strong. However, if you do, the way we go about our in-person worship gatherings will look different. Take a look:
