Uniting around the person of Jesus and the life he invites us into.

This fall, that is the focus of our University Carillon family. Our mission as a church reminds us that we are sent and that our goal is that anyone and everyone is invited to follow Jesus. And our starting point is Alpha.

What is Alpha?

Alpha is a series of small group sessions exploring the basics of the Christian faith. Alpha runs eleven weeks, with each session looks at a different question around faith, and the talks are designed to create conversation in small groups afterwards.

Topics include:

  • Is there more to life than this?
  • Who is Jesus?
  • Why and how should we read the Bible?
  • Who is the Holy Spirit? What does it look like to be filled by the Holy Spirit?

Why Alpha at UC?

We desire to see families becoming family, intergenerational discipleship, and a movement of the Holy Spirit within our Orlando community. And we realize that our part in participating in this mission is to explore the fundamentals of our faith—in Christ, through scripture, with community. And the means of this is Alpha.

Dreaming and praying what it would look like for the church to come together—to renew and revisit our foundations of faith—we realized it would be a church wide effort. Kids Ministry & EPIC Youth are adapting the content to fit their contexts. Prodigal College Ministry is looking to connect with the wider church through intergenerational small groups. We are in development of resources for families to continue conversations of Jesus’ life and hope beyond the church parking lot.

What happens at Alpha?

Every Alpha is different, but they have three things in common: food, a talk, and conversation.

Talk

The videos explore the basics of the Christian faith and are designed to inspire conversation. Relevant for both those that have been in the church for years, as well as those that just aren’t sure.

FOOD

Sessions start with food, because coming around a table is the best way to connect and have good conversation.

CONVERSATION

There is space for discussion after the talk where you can share your thoughts, ideas, and questions on the session’s topic. Everything is fair game.

Hear from UC Church Members about participating in Alpha.

“I agreed to co-lead an Alpha group a few years ago thinking it’d be a cool opportunity to help a study. What I got in return was a deep sense of revived faith in the principles I lived by. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to lead an Alpha group a couple more times and I’ve gleaned something new from it every time. I never get tired of being involved with the Lord moving through Alpha.”

—Kris H. (Vessel/Prodigal)

“I went to Alpha because I had a feeling it was what I should do. The group gave me a renewing of my faith and environment to help deepen my spiritual understandings.”

—James V. (Young Adults)

How can you get involved?

Starting in the Fall of 2022. Uniting around the person of Jesus and the life he invites us into.

Groups will become available mid-summer. Check back here or let us know to keep you updated!

We’re gathering interest for Alpha leaders. This includes both those willing to facilitate (lead an alpha group) and/or host (open your home/space) an Alpha group.
